From the post

The Proco RAT is an iconic op-amp distortion circuit with shunt clipping diodes. The RAT’s clipping method is similar to that found in the MXR Distortion+, but the RAT filters the signal differently and has a third knob for a tone control (variable low pass filter) which gives it more versatility. This can be built on standard stripboard but it can also be built on wide-spacing stripboard if a metal can op-amp is used. Original units used an LM308 op amp which is no longer manufactured. Modern versions use an OP07 instead, though some builders like to use a socket and experiment with various options here. If you do so, make sure the op amp’s pinout matches the LM308.
