From the vendor

The Shin-ei designed Super-Fuzz made by Unicord for Univox from 1968 into the late 1970s, used by Pete Townshend among many others. A two-transistor input gain stage feeds a phase splitter driving a long-tailed pair, whose shared collector gives full-wave rectification and the upper octave, then a pair of germanium diodes clip it. A tone switch engages a mid-scooping filter around 1 kHz, and a final transistor stage drives the output. The post quotes mictester: high-gain transistors for the first two and a matched long-tailed pair give more octave; silicon clipping diodes make the biggest change.

mictester: the circuit works best with high hFE transistors for the first two (he used BC109C) and lower gain for the rest; almost any silicon transistor works. Matching the long-tailed pair transistors and the resistors around them gives much more octave. Swapping the germanium clipping diodes for silicon gives the biggest change in sound.
