The older two-knob Karl: a 2N5089 gain stage, with a 5KB Intensity pot at the input, drives a 2N3906/2N3904 'non-selective frequency tripler' pair, followed by a 1N4148/BAT46 diode clipper and the Volume pot. The post identifies it as an adaptation of Tim Escobedo's Tripple Fuzz and describes it as sweet at low gain with octave and ring-mod tones at higher gain.

The post says the 1M pulldown at the input is not needed, since it sits in parallel with the 5KB Intensity pot. The post says the two power filter capacitors are unneeded and the 47u can be left out. The newer three-knob Karl adds a tone control; the post suggests a 10n-22n capacitor to ground through a B47K pot just after the last output capacitor, before the Volume pot, or a Big Muff style tone stack.
