Catalinbread's Hiwatt-in-a-box: three cascaded BS170 MOSFET gain stages with a tone stack between the second and third, in the same family as the Zvex Box of Rock. Negative feedback from the third stage back to the first (200K and 470n) tames the gain, and the MOSFETs are biased off center by a 62K/100K divider for asymmetrical, tube-like clipping.

The author suggests replacing the 200K feedback resistor (R11) with a B500K pot, and trying other values for the 470n feedback cap (C8): smaller keeps more highs.
