From the vendor
The blog author's own single-transistor overdrive aiming at 1960s Vox tones, a heavily modified Electro-Harmonix LPB-1 that starts from the Lovepedal Englishman. A 4.7K collector resistor adds gain, an 82n emitter bypass cap and a 47K/22n filter at the output push the upper mids, and an SB340 Schottky plus BAT46 give asymmetrical clipping whose amount the Headroom control sets, with a tube-like sag as it is rolled back.
The 2N3565 sounded best in tests, but a 2N5088, BC108 or any decent-gain NPN can be used. The finished pedal adds a diode switch (as on the Lovepedal Englishman) in series with the Headroom control, selecting the BAT46/SB340 pair, 1N4148s or no diodes.
