The author's version of the EP Booster: the same 2N5457 gain stage with the Boost pot on the source, a treble roll-off Tone control (which could be called 'Sparkle'), a master Volume, and a JFET source follower in place of the BJT output. The bass boost switch is left out, and an ICL7660S doubler lets it run at 18V, where it sounds best, from a 9V battery.

The bass boost switch was omitted because it muddied the boost; it can be added back. To reduce the low end, lower the input cap to 33nF and change the bypass cap on the Boost control to 220nF-1uF to taste. Replace the first JFET's drain resistor with a 10k trimmer and set 5.5V on the drain.
