The blog author's own overdrive, designed for the freestompboxes forum: a BS170 MOSFET gain stage, a passive tone control, then two cascaded J201 JFET stages that clip. The tone control sits between the MOSFET and JFET stages so it shapes the harmonics of the clipping stages, and a DPDT switch can bypass it for a large gain boost. The author describes it as somewhere between a Marshall and a Mesa, more open and touch sensitive at 12V or 18V.

C2 (MOSFET output cap) sets the bass response; values from 2.2n to 22n work. The author used 4.7n in his build with a 'voice' switch that adds another 4.7n in parallel (thin vs stock). C7 (10u on Q2's source): remove it for lower gain, or replace it with 100n for a 'presence' boost; the author used 100n in his build. C5 (1n on Q2's gate): increase for more high-end roll-off. C8 (470p): alter for more high-end roll-off; 220p to 1n work well. C10 (470n presence cap on Q3's source): change the value to alter the frequency response. Alternate tone stack (used in the author's build): 10n, two 10K resistors, a B50K pot, 82n and 1K. The PCB version by Marshmellow adds a Gain switch that lifts C7. Try running it at 9V, 12V and 18V; higher voltage gives a more open, less compressed tone.
