The Quasar is an analog flanger built around the new Sound Semiconductor SSI2100 bucket brigade chip. The Quasar is fully-features with Depth, Rate, and Feedback controls, and is compact enough to fit inside a Hammond 1590N1/125B or Gorva C65. With one trimpot for LFO symmetry, it requires minimal post-build calibration unlike many existing Flanger circuits. The Quasar has a very wide range of LFO speeds for slow, subtle modulation or intense high-speed sounds. The Depth control allows for the intensity to be fine-tuned, and the Feedback control uses positive feedback for classic resonant flanger sounds. The Quasar is a medium-current device. It can run on a 9V battery with a moderate battery life, but a 9V power adapter is recommended. Once the build is complete, the symmetry of the LFO needs to be set using the on-board trimpot. Connect your guitar to the pedal's input and connect the pedal's output to your amplifier. Set all control knobs to 12 O'clock, and locate the trimpot on the board. Adjust the trimpot so that the modulation sounds balanced and does not "rise" or "fall" too quickly. The difference should be apparent when listening, and the most symmetrical sound should be somewhere near the middle of the trimpot's rotation. Though unnecessary, an oscilloscope can also be used to set the symmetry of the LFO by probing pin 3 of the Depth potentiometer.
