From the post
The Top Gear Fuzz is a simple variant of the silicon Fuzz Face. It is notable for its different “Fuzz” control which effectively limits the minimum setting that can be achieved to a smaller range. As Fuzz Faces often had most of the useful control range bunched up towards one end of its rotation, this fuzz control gives a more useful range of fuzz amounts which are more evenly-distributed across the potentiometer’s rotation. The pictured build here is based on this layout, but the components have been spaced out to fill the available space.
