Foxx Tone Machine

The Foxx Tone Machine is a transformerless octave fuzz pedal. It achieves its octave sound in a similar way to the Roger Mayer Octavia, but it can also provide a strong fuzz sound with or without the octave engaged. The Sustain potentiometer effectively controls the strength of the fuzz signal, and the Tone control provides additional timbre-shaping for a wide range of fuzz sounds. Original units used 2N3565 transistors, which tend to have a beta around 300. They were built into a moderately large custom enclosure with a unique velvet finish. This build uses PR01 metal film resistors (1W resistors in a standard 1/4W size) on a compact phenolic stripboard layout for an old-school look with a much smaller pedal footprint. This build is sized for a Gorva Design C65 and will also fit in a 1590N1/125B. See Figure 3 in our Guitar Pedal Footswitch and Jack Wiring article for the recommended footswitch and I/O wiring.
